  1. HA! Love that Interweave Knits photo. Spot on.

  2. Your daughter is just gorgeous. I made an MTosh purpley honey cowl for mine to wear on a September trip to Chicago (I know what you’re thinking: winter wear in September? She’s a Miami girl). What’s your secret to getting such model-perfect poses? Mine is all, like, rolling her eyes, like, Mom! Stop!

  3. Does Carrie know how beautiful she is? She’s got that New Yorker thing going on too. I don’t know what is is, something about the way she wears that cowl….

  4. I’m usually a lurker but oh my! that last photo. Hilarious. And Carrie is sooooo beautiful!

  5. The Ellis Island–you crack me up, Kay!
Personally, I would never look as beautiful as Carrie does in that cowl. I could never affect that sultry, detached look, LOL.

  6. You’d better watch out, mama. That girl is working the Haughtily Disinterested Beauty thing like nobody’s business.

  7. Hey, what kind of a cast on are you using on those honey cowls? I used a knitted on one, where you knit between the stitches rather than into the previous stitch, but i’m not loving it. Seems not to roll in properly. Maybe it’s the yarn which is who-knows-what hand dyed that I took back from my daughter after she abandoned a scarf after six inches. Help?

  8. your girl is beautiful. and I bet she’s as smart as she is beautiful. nice honey cowls too, now I have to make one (some).

  9. Thanks for a giggle… that last photo is awesome. The cowl is gorgeous!!!!

  10. Just have to chime in – Carrie is a lovely young woman – and a good sport!
    min
PS The cowl is nice too!

  11. Come on! Take it to the beach and give us The Rowan!!!
Wow, that is some so-fis-ti-kated model. Wow.

  12. Beautiful. The scarf too.

  13. I’m with Amber – we need The Rowan! Maybe in the woods? And Carrie is gorgeous!

  14. I really need to make one of these for myself!

  15. bwaaaaahahahahaha so great

  16. I am halfway through my first honey cowl and there is no way it will be my last. I am well and truly addicted. Thanks for the styling tips, and the new addiction!

  17. I LOVE the interweave knits picture. perfection.

  18. how did you ever make such a devine carrie?…….and the cowl is lovely, too!

  19. These pics of your daughter make me realize I’ve been reading your blog a very long time.
Lovely cowl, would like to see the Rowan too!

  20. Your daughter looks quite the young lady — and looks like she is ready to model!

  21. Still laughing down here.

  22. thanks for the laugh – much needed today!

  23. holy hand grenade of antioch, that’s carrie? i have also been reading this blog longer than i realized! what a beauty!

  24. so how much did you have to pay her in Apple / Top Shop vouchers? Still, definitely worth it! Well done both (and we are laughing here). x x x

  25. She’s a very good sport about this “stick the wool stuff on and let mom take a picture” lark.

  26. love it. i never figure out how to wear mine right. maybe I need to make more honey cowls. i loved making my first one.

  27. I have to agree with all of the comments. The humor. The beauty. I think it would be so much fun to do a shoot with yours and mine.
I logged on to look for info on Memphis but maybe it was a tweet from Ann.

  28. I like the cowls I’ve made. I should so add this one to my list!

  29. Rimshot! The “InterweaveKnits” is classic.

  30. Thanks for the giggle. I’m going to have to check out this Honey Cowl pattern, they look great.

  31. I, too, have been reading since Carrie was a little girl. Now she’s a stunningly beautiful young woman. The cowl’s great but the model is greater! Aren’t we lucky to have daughters!!!

  32. carrie is so beautiful and and off camera. and a good sport with a sense of humour. love her. where you be? have been trying to get in touch with you since young joseph’s bar mitzvah…

  34. Carrie wears it much like I wear my gap-tastic, but she looks Oh-so-much-better!
    Love the photo shoot.

  35. Hilarious. And, also, beautiful…
The little girl I met a few years ago at Rhinebeck has left the building, as I’m sure you’re already aware. Time flying and all that.

  36. That last photo. Hilarious. And Carrie is sooooo beautiful!

  37. Your daughter is gorgeous!! Very aloof with her pouty lips and pale eyes and arched eyebrows. I had a sudden urge to pick up both of my Mason Dixon Knitting books and see where all the time has gone.

  38. Such is your power to tempt I have a overwhelming desire to knit a Honey Cowl! :-)

  39. Such is your power to tempt I have a overwhelming desire to knit a Honey Cowl! :-)

  40. I want to knit this but wyif scares me. That means to have the yarn in front when you slip it to make the horizontal bars in the pattern, I think…
    Oy!

  41. Cool cowl. Gorgeous model.

  42. I just got the pattern a week ago and now deciding what yarn to use. Pictures are great!! Thanks for sharing them. Can’t wait to knit it up or two.

  43. Oh, my. A Honey Cowl, the colour of honey. Delicious!

  44. Honey Cowl III looks as if it is made of honey. Perfect for cold, gloomy winter days!
Also, Carrie begins to rival Caitlin Fitzgerald as “beautiful daughter model of knitting mother.”
    Nice work all around!

  45. It would not surprise me in the least to see Carrie in the next season of “America’s Top Model.”
    Just sayin’ …

  46. The Ellis island! hahahahaha

  47. You are too much. Love it – the Ellis Island (so right on – went there last spring) and the IKnits. It’s hard to style things on hands now that it has been done like that to death! Hope you are well and enjoying January.
    Best,
    Kristin

  48. So THAT’s what the honey cowl looks like, properly knitted. Very nice. I will have to try again.

  49. A classic Kay post! Love the cowl, in all of its presentations. Carrie is a good sport.

  50. Is the disdainful I’m-way-too-cool-for-school expression required? Cuz Carrie has it down cold. She is a beauty, that’s for sure.

  51. That is one awesome model! I personally would wear the Ellis Island but my family would really give me a hard time I’m sure…

  52. There have been a ton of great posts through the years, but this ranks near the top (Ellis Island — nearly caused me to shoot hot tea through my nose — it kills me how you slip those droll comments in). And just when I think Carrie can’t get any lovelier, she proves me wrong.

  53. Thank you thank you thank you. What a fun post. (I bet you and Carrie have a lot of laughs together. Nothing like a daughter. . .) :-)

  54. :-))) Nailed it Kay! Carrie’s got the IK pose down spot-on. See, heavy exposure to knit mags early in life does give the young’uns mad skills.

  55. Hmmmm…honey cowl…can’t get it out of my head…wonder why?

  56. Holy Cowl! How long can I resist knitting one of these? You would not believe how much I, middle-aged lady, think I’ll be able to work it like Carrie.

  57. OK!OK! I gotta make one! Thanks for the stylin’ notes.

  58. Half way thru my first honey cowl- and I love that you included the styling tips compliments of your beautiful girl. I have yarn for at least three more ( two daughters, one daughter-in-law) and know they will enjoy the styling options.

  60. Lovely girl, funny post! And yes, I have already cast one on!

  61. Carrie is gorgeous! I love the cowls and the clip ‘n save. I think my niece needs one of these for Christmas (thinking ahead here) and I think I need one now.

  62. Pictures are great!! Thanks for sharing them. Can’t wait to knit it up or two.

  63. Two lovely models, each with her own brand of sophistication. If I had such a neice, such a daughter, I would be knitting cowls, too. Also, since I’ve been a long time reader, it’s an especially poignant privilege to see how Carrie is growing up and blossoming before my (our) eyes.
    God bless!
    LoveDiane

  64. Great cowl but… GREAT song! have been in love with the Black Keys like… ferEVER :) And you have sucked me into garter stitch baby knits this month… Moderne Blanket and lotta bibs :)

  65. Ooh, ooh, I want to see one worn as a turban! I haven’t made one yet otherwise I would have already tried this…
