  1. Hehehe – this is the best rendition of a Rowan model I have ever seen!
(And if that wasn’t what you were going for with these pictures – I’m just going to continue remain on my own planet giggling at my own jokes.)

  2. ha ha ha! I must knit it!

  3. The sweater is awesome and so are the photos!

  4. Um, Ann, honey — does it itch?

  5. Perfect! Rowan will be calling!

  6. THIS IS A TRUE ALL-CAPS ROFLMAOWPIMP moment.

  7. P.S. I hope that’s not poison ivy you’re lying in. Believe it or not, even though I’m a country girl, I still cannot reliably identify poison ivy.

  8. Love this, sure hope there is no poison ivy involved. :)

  9. fanfuckingtastic!

  10. Too funny! Rowan’s got NOTHIN’ on YOU!!

  11. Brilliant!

  12. HAHA….
    you are hilarious!!!
Love the sweater and am in awe that someone can tackle a project like it!!!
If fact …the photo looks like you were tackled…Did the sweater attack!
    so cute and funny
    Pam

  13. I hope this was meant to be funny because those faces are hilarious!!

  14. Sweater Rapture – Rowan style?

  15. I’m sure the Starmore girls would love that picture!
nice wellingtons and petticoats. that tied the whole outfit together.

  16. Ann, honey, you look lovely! Wonderful sweater and such a gracious pose.

  17. If you’d rolled back just a tad further, I wonder if you might have “REVEALED” a little more than the sweater?
    **grinning**
    Hilarious!

  18. Such Rowan-esque angst! Except you forgot to wrap a tablecloth around your head with messy unwashed hair hanging out, and you probably need to add 4 or 12 or so belts or sashes. Other than that…expect Tyra or Heidi to call ’cause you got game!

  19. Love it. But where is the ‘standard face-on so knitters can see it’ shot? Hmmm? These arty pics are all very well… and Kay, this does not let you off lying in a graveyard against a wall in your linen-wrap-jobby (sorry, can’t remember name of it for the life of me). Giggling madly. x x

  20. Once again, your wonderful witty, intelligent blog has brought a lot of happiness to my day. The only thing possibly missing from this totally authentic Rowan photo shoot is a tombstone and perhaps a somewhat moodier facial expression on the model. That one picture-worth-a-thousand-words thing: really true.

  23. Absolutely mauve-r-lous dawlin’–the aesthetic, the sunlight, the devil-may-care attitude! I’m in utter awe.
Are you sure you didn’t take that picture on a farm in the UK countryside just after a breakfast of scones with buttercream and tea?
Also, anyone else notice how the field picture makes the sweater appear so much more green than the closeups? Are you sure you didn’t knit with color-changing yarn? Heat (or modeling) activated?

  24. Made my day! What a hoot you are! I agree, hope no poison ivy was involved. I shudder just remembering when I had it three years ago!

  25. I nearly had a tea-on-screen moment.
    ~x~

  26. Ahahah! thank you for that. :) I laughed pretty loud here at my desk (what, me reading blogs at work? never). :)
    Love the sweater. :)

  27. Brilliant :D For a minute there I thought I was looking at the latest Rowan magazine. I love the funky combination of clompy boots and delicate petticoat – can’t beat it.
Beautiful sweater too, well worth the time and effort I’d say, and those leaves really do bring out the green in it.

  28. Hilarious! Thanks for the chuckles.

  29. HI LARRY OUS! I am laughing so hard that I am crying. Good way to start my day!

  30. Best post. Ever. Putting action to the phrase “make it work!”

  31. OMG- that is the funniest post!DELIGHTFUL!

  32. Those Rowan models have nothing on you! Just make sure you don’t pull a Cara and model your knits in poison ivy.

  33. I’m impressed with the fair isle sweater. Great job. I’m also impressed that you’re brave enough about snakes to get down and roll around in the pachasandra that way. Or wait … did you simply not know that snakes love that sort of ground cover?

  34. Awesome!!!

  35. Is it too late to put these pics in the new book? Also, I have iced coffee up my nose from laughing. It’s gross.

  36. ha!

  37. I second cara’s comment!

  38. I second cara’s comment!

  39. Stupendous! Absolutely stupendous!
I’m calling The Sartorialist right now.

  40. That’s it, you owe me a new keyboard!

  41. Too Too Funny!! Thanks for the laugh and I will remember this every time I look at a Rowan magazine :o)

  42. Good job, now I’m dead of laughing.
But seriously, that sweater is so awesome.

  43. Love it, made me wonder if you were being eaten by the kudzu.

  44. Heee!

  45. Heee!

  46. Well now I know what you’ve been up to.
You should link to your Birch shots of long ago. Sort of a Best Of Ann Being Extra Weird collector’s edition.
    It’s a gift.
I’m dieting for my Ether shot. Don’t hold your breath. (I’m also going to hold my breath.)
    xo Kay

  47. one word comes to mind. chiggers.

  48. That made my day!

  49. BAHAHA..that is too funny..and I agree with whoever else it was that said that Tyra would be calling..that is Fierce!

  50. I simply have no words!!!
    xoxoxo

  51. Very stylish…very stylish indeed, O! Our Lady of the Undergrowth.

  52. Oh God…this is fantastic. Way to totally brighten my day.

  53. Bwa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

  54. Bwa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

  55. Love it! You really need an extraneous male model, though, too… you know, 20-something, toned, shirt unbuttoned down to here… just to complete the shoot, of course!

  56. That’s the BEST photo shoot ever!!!

  57. Petticoats, angst and sturdy shoes. 100% Rowan-mantic. You are too funny.

  58. You crack me up! Gorgeous sweater!

  59. OMG god, so funny. You made my work day brighter!

  60. Obviously you are planning a take-over of Rowan and you’ve made an admirable beginning. Rock on!
p.s. Love the petticoat and boots – almost “made for each other.”

  61. I’m making that my new screensaver, what a laugh……beautiful sweater though, wish the model wasn’t being attacked! LOL….

  62. Fierce!
I just snorted out loud at work & now everyone knows I am not being productive. The sad part is, no one will get the joke if I try to explain why I have mascara running down my face.

  63. Too too funny!!! I agree with Tish, you need a kazillion funky chunky belts, or a head wrap or fabulous hat, and you’re ready for the cover of the Rowan spring issue. Your facial expression just does me in. Priceless, unrepeatable, pure gold. :)

  64. Best blog post ever. Hands down. You’ve never looked fiercer.

  65. Agree(1) Love(1) Funny(1)

  66. So very Rowan! I think you’re going to have to figure out how to turn them down when they come calling to offer to a job.

  67. just like the Rowan books, your photos make me want to cast on immediately!

  68. Love the photos… you look like you are in the throws of death, not just dead ala Rowen. Oh yeah, the sweater’s nice too.

  69. Love the photos… you look like you are in the throws of death, not just dead ala Rowen. Oh yeah, the sweater’s nice too.

  70. Too funny. What, in the name of all that’s holy, are you wearing on your feet?

  71. God – I love it. Love it. Thanks for the giggle!

  72. I so would pay money for a panel of Twiggy, Janet Dickinson, Nigel Barker and “Miss J” commenting on those photos.
(And yes, my guilty pleasure is ANTM marathons, why do you ask?)

  73. Snakes up the petticoat, eh?
    Beautiful!

  74. It’s amazing! And I love your modeling job! I also love that you knew enough back in 2004 to say that this is going to take me 4 years to knit. I keep wanting to jump into the fair isle pool, but what’s stopping me? I’ve spent 4 years knitting a sweater before! Now you just need some cold weather.

  75. What great pictures. Very Rowan meets the real world of trying to take fashion pictures.
    The sweater is fantastic!

  76. Roll over, Rowan models. The competition is here.

  77. Funny looking artsy photos. Screams Rowan (though they have gotten better, the last one I looked at I could tell what all of the knitted items were) to me.

  78. Okay, people, I figured it out. The top picture is “Is that a snake I feel crawling up my petticoat?” Next one down is “Damn, it is a snake.” Third one is snapped after the photographer yelled “Just one more shot!”
Nice sweater. But chiggers, oh my, I remember the itch.

  79. Very Rowanesque. Thanks for the giggle!

  80. oh my the hilarity that ensued following that photoshoot was unforgettable i’m sure. were underpants soiled? i’m assuming yes.
geez if Rowan pattern books had these kind of pics they would SELL OUT INSTANTLY!!! seriously, because that is the reality right??? :o) you avoided the furry 3-leafed plant, right? or is it called something else???
the sweater is Beautiful!!! and i’m just itching to get my hands on your guys’ next book! can’t wait!
    :o) elaine.

  81. loving the pictures. You truly capture the typical Rowan mood. Especially the boots.
But I’m timidly asking for a “real” photo. I want to see that sweater as it should be seen.
    Please.

  84. Ok, seriously. You need a “GO TO THE BATHROOM NOW” disclaimer over that post. Oh, man. So perfect!!!

  85. I truly wish I hadn’t just taken a bite of my lunch before deciding to check out your blog…
I’m still laughing an hour later.

  86. Too funny and don’t worry, it’s not poison ivy which I’m sure you already knew….. the sweater is lovely!

  87. You are a riot! The sweater is gorgeous!

  88. HA HA HA!

  89. Snort!!!! The sweater looks awesome though.

  90. TOO FUNNY!!! (Nice sweater, tho’!)
    (((hugs)))

  91. I too vote for a more traditional photo — this is a lovely sweater and I’d like to see it (but I do appreciate your stylized poses LOL!)

  94. I can’t stop looking at this.

  95. Sadly, I noticed that you are wearing Blundstones first.
But then, I am madly in love with mine.

  96. Let me guess, your motivation was…a visit to the gyno?

  97. I see a contest here. Out Rowening Rowen. The Rowen-esque Photo Shoot of Personal Handknits Contest!

  98. Ohmigod YOU ROCK!!! You are my hero and I love you for this.

  99. Congratulations on the birth of your beautiful Keava. You both look adorable.

  100. So that’s what finish-itis looks like. Lady-bloomers, Wellies and the most gorgeous sweater. Rowan – eat your heart out!

  101. Um..Ann,
Hunny, I have a question, who took the pix Sugar and um.. have they stopped laughing yet!
    Luuuv this.

  103. “What Rowan Models Are *Really* Thinking”

  104. Fabulous, darling.

[that's a kiss on each cheek].

  105. Blunnies and crinolines…you are a complex individual, Ann!
    Thanks for the chuckles :)

  106. Where did you get those boots? I love the boots.

  107. Shriek!!! Thank you for that.

  108. The Anti-Ether. Work it!

  109. brilliant! and once again, you’re very welcome!
    xx

  110. Fabulously funny! And what is that skirt??

  111. O M G !
That is the funiestuggliesthomeliest photo shoot ever, and only a beautiful woman in a beautiful sweater could have pulled off that panty-wetting feat!
Thanks for a great laugh, Ann.

  112. Oh SO Rowanesque. And you look just as serene as those Rowan girls too. ;)

  113. Unrelated, but I have to ask:
Is there a site or something where I can submit errata to a few of the patterns in the Mason Dixon book? It’s got some great advice and hilarious stories, but the math in a few of the patterns just doesn’t add up. I’m working on the Moderne baby blanket right now, and after discovering a sizable stitch count error there (as in, about 18 stitches), I looked through the rest of the patterns and discovered a couple more. Let me know!
Thanks ladies, keep on keeping on.

  114. That’s Numberwang!

  115. so, so funny. you have certainly set the bar for future blog photo shoots!

  116. The sweater is GORGEOUS,AMAZING, BEAUTIFUL. The pix are just hilariously funny, my sides ache from laughing. But you look far too healthy to be a Rowan model, where is your chalk white complexion and “I forgot not to stick my finger in a light socket” hair?
    Elizzie

  117. You are the best!

  118. Those poses ARE funny, to be sure. They also bring out the serious side in me, a sadness, as if a more conventional pose would almost have been forcing the knitter to admit that she really “did good”. This way feels as if I have been asked to go along with down playing a wonderful accomplishment (something that I’m not up to doing at the moment).
Then again, I could very well be projecting…
Thanks for the inspiration; and, thanks for listening.
    LoveDiane

  119. You’re insane. I love you.

  120. Reminds me of an Edward Gorey story.

  121. Brilliant – absolutely love it! (And an awe-inspiring piece of knitting as well.)

  122. Thanks for the laugh! You look brilliant. And the sweater is gorgeous!

  123. No, I’m deducting marks there because I can still see the neckline although you did manage to be elusive with the sleeve length and the bottom hem. For a true fashion photo I should be unable to see any of the key features (or at least I think that’s how it works)
    The wellies really make it.

  124. Congratulations ! Glorious sweater and hilarious faces. Thanks for sharing this moment of pure… whatever this is, it’s great anyway.

  125. Dear Ann,
I am sitting at my desk at work, laughing my ass off. It’s a good thing it is early and only one other person is here (and he knows me), otherwise they’d be calling the Health Unit to come and check my vitals.
    Love,
    Wendy

  126. I haven’t had a slip like that since I was 7 years old… a looooong time ago! Love the photos and the sweater is gorgeous!

  127. Oh woman, you have a wicked sense of humor! My sides hurt,OW!

  128. Hilarious! Rowan would be proud.

  129. You truly know how to make love to the camera! Work it, baby, gimme Blue Steel.

  130. This is fabulous. Truly the best way to celebrate an epic finish!!! (I will say however that big wooly sweaters and long frilly skirts were my favored attire in high school so I am completely biased here)
I think I had better pull my epic Rowan project out tonight and get cracking again–whoever said there should be a Rowan photo contest is soooo right. That would be too damn fun.
    hugs,
    Jenny

  131. That is the funniest thing I’ve ever seen! Bravah!

  132. Oh, that definitely makes me want to knit it. Lovely! I mean the sweater, really, it is lovely.

  133. Thanks for making my day!! You have no idea how bad I needed a laugh…

  134. it looks like you are giving birth in an incredibly beautiful sweater! where are you in those pics?

  135. Hilarious! Great sweater! I am going to get in trouble with my neighbors on the cube farm for laughing so hard/long/loud.

  136. Perfect!

  137. You made me laugh out loud, and put a smile on my face this a.m.!

  138. I’ve always wanted the autograph of a real Rowan model, could you oblige? (Thanks for making my morning, love the Wellies!) (Sweater’s pretty amazing too, BTW!)

  139. Hysterical. My fave is the first one, where it really (rilly) looks like you’re just mad enough to be wandering the countryside dressed in petticoats, wellies and a perfect fairisle but not any madder.

  140. You put those Rowan models to shame. The Wellies were an especially nice touch. I expect you’ll be under contract with them soon enough. Thanks for taking time out of your super-model schedule to share with us. Cami

  141. Just fabulous, darling. Oh, and that goes for the sweater too.

  142. I think it’s time for a Rowanesque photo contest…

  143. Was it Ann that said the model in the original photo was stoned?
    Is that what is missing?
I love the photos- except after I was finished laughing, I worried a little for Ann’s well-being!

  144. I love it! I would like to be like you, Ann, when I grow up.

  145. I can’ts stop laughing out loud. This has made my day – thanks!

  146. I can’ts stop laughing out loud. This has made my day – thanks!

  147. What a beautiful sweater!
You made my evening yesterday when I first came across your fashion shoot. I laughed and laughed and then I got out the last Rowan mag, showed my husband some pics, and then your blog. I wanted him to know some of the background so he could laugh heartily with me. Thanks.

  148. Next Top Model watch out! I love the sweater and very interesting photo shoot!
    Vicki

  150. Dear Kay…PLEASE HELP!!! In your April 10th post you showed a little bit of your Giant Miter #2. Do you have instructions for this? I checked in your book, but didn’t know how to “extrapolate” your little miter instructions! I would love to make an afghan of maybe 4 of these larger squares instead of all the small ones! Any help that you can offer would be greatly appreciated! Thank you and have a great weekend! Corinne

  152. OMG.. best post ever! The sweater is gorgeous and the model is even better!

  153. You know… I’ve always thought that you had missed your calling as a Rowan model. You’ve proven me right! :D Too funny!!
As for the sweater, having seen it up close and personal… it’s magnificent! Still a scarf and blanket knitter myself… I’m in total awe. :)

  154. You missed your vocation in life. You should have been a ………. comedian :0) (Or a model but I figured you’d prefer to be allowed to eat !)

  155. The sweater is lovely dear. But did you sit in fire ants??

  156. HILARIOUS!

  157. That is wicked!! America’s Next Top Model need look no further!

  158. Best photo shoot I’ve ever seen. The first one is just enough on the edge of sanity that it looks like it could be the real thing, with a suitably sullen and tragic look. The second one lets the cat out of the bag. Hilarious!

  159. Ok now you’ve raised the bar waay up.The pressure! I love these. It’s all in the crinoline with Blundstones action.

  160. Ann, you are the best!
    beautiful sweater too!

  161. You’ll be getting the bill – I should have the laptop back in about a week. They tell me the cheapest fix is for a cat to lick all the tea out of the keyboard and then they’ll hold it under one of those blowdryers in the ladies’ room. Thenks. OTHERWISE: Rowan is sort of above my skill ability, but I’ve seen enough of those magazines/books to recognize this, and if you don’t win some kind of award for this…….well, you HAVE! You have just been awarded the 2008 Jewish Mother’s Best Laugh of the Century Award, category: knitters. Skeins of yarn are being raised to you all over the world!!

  162. PS VERY nice sweater!!

  163. Funny funny funny funny funny! OMG you slay me!

  164. Thank you for bein one of the REAL beautiful people. You made me smile…. Such a gift.

  165. Ann, you really missed your calling. Four words- Americas Next Top Model. YOU!
BTW…I have the same boots. Copied them from Bonne Marie. LOVE them.

  166. SO SO SO FUNNY!
Just because of this I will start a Fair Isle sweater of my own!

  167. Stunning sweater! but I have to ask: is that heather or pachysandra? Love it!!!

  168. Laughed so loud I startled my neighbor sitting on her deck (the same one who stares when I take pix of my sock-clad feet).

  169. I think I just broke something laughing at that. Please do the one where she’s lying dead in the weeds. I think that may become more popular than the Rachel.

  170. What a hoot! This is so funny! One of the funniest things I’ve seen on blogs in ages. I had tears on my face from laughing so hard.

  171. Woohoo! I love it.

  172. another reader dead from laughing.

  173. did rowan call yet?
