(June 2007, Monteagle, Tennesee. Ann and Kay, kicking back on the porch with some handknits –wearing Lady Jackets and full battle makeup, but whatever. Livin’ the dream! Keepin’ it surreal!)
Dear Ann,
Five years ago today, you: were knitting a Rowan cardi with dreadlocks on it, which you would finish but never wear.
Meanwhile, I: was dreaming about running into you at Target.
In other words, nothing has changed.
Happy blogiversary honey! Semper fi! Five years that seem like five minutes (except for the part where we were proofreading two books’ worth of knitting patterns)! Love ya!
Maybe we should have a contest or something? If the prize is an IKEA Tullsta chair and 3000 yards of upholstery yarn, we may get as many as– gosh– 5 or 6 entries?
Love,
Kay

  1. duuuuude that sounds like a GREAT contest! You should TOTALLY do it!!

  2. Happy Blogiversary! I know I speak for knitters everywhere when I say how awesome it is that ya’ll found each other and gave birth to this beautiful blog. Ya’ll rock!
    Congratulations! :)

  3. Awwww, happy anniversary! I really enjoy your blog; you inspired me to start my own. (Four months, now; I’m a newbie.) But, um, no upholstery yarn for me. That’s too much commitment.

  4. Heck yeah! That’s a contest prize I could really get on board with. :)
    Happy anniversary you two!

  5. Contest? Heck yeah! Where do I sign up?
Happy Blog-iversary to both of you.
I also just started one (why am I always late to the party?)
Perhaps Kay could answer a question: where in the NYC area can I have a quilt machine quilted??

  6. What a great achievement! Go Girls!!
Oh yeah, that chair and upholstry yarn contest — where do I sign up?
PS to Kay: I’ve nearly finished all of the “wall of linen” blocks — will there be more, or am I on my own here??

  7. Happy Blogiversary. Love you gals and your take on life and knitting. The battle make-up looks great. Not too different from the normal y’all.
Not upholstery yarn for me. I have a cat that thinks all furniture is the “enemy”

  8. Count me in!
My friends and family thought I was NUTS for knitting a bathroom curtain (a la Bubbly) – don’t want to disappoint ‘em by NOT knitting a chair cover!
    ps: Happy Blog Anniv!!!!

  9. WHAT A GREAT PICTURE! Is this for the cover of bookbook…or are you going to save it for bookbookbook?

  10. drawing? it’s a drawing? count me IN!

  11. I’m so glad the two of you found each other and decided to share the resulting magic with all of us. Happy Blogiversary!

  12. Happy Blogiversary! You have brought a lot of enjoyment to my knitting, and how else would I have been inspired to knit a tail-warmer for Mr. Beaver???? (My brother-in-law gets the biggest kick out of that. He has custody of Mr. Beaver.) I’m sure that the many (four) babies that I’m knitting for this year will also thank you for the fabulous baby patterns in your book. :-) You girls are crazy, and it’s fun to be invited along for the ride!
PS — The four babies are OTHER people’s babies! I have three age 3 and under, I’m taking a break…

  13. Happy Anniversary! I wanted to let you know that I got your book yesterday and I just LOVE it! In fact, last night after “relations” with the hubby, while he was outside for a cigarette, I flipped through the book again. Is it wrong that I was thinking of the book right after sex? Anyway, this morning I ordered a ton of yarn for projects. So in spite of your book causing problems with my sex life and bank account, I am so happy I have it. You two keep rockin’ the yarn!

  14. Happy Blogiversary! Your partnership has lasted longer than many celebrity marriages. What’s your sekrit? Could it be the long distance or is it the cushioning insulation of yarn?
    Congrats!

  15. Happy blogiversary!!

  16. Happy Anniversary!!!

  17. i’m verklemt. remember when MD Knitting was, like, at the forefront of knit blogging? you two lovely ladies set the path for others — and now we can all kill HOURS each day reading about the knit-related antics of so many others.
thank you for your perseverance, your combined wit, and the kick ASS knit-related antics.

  18. Happy Blogiversary! Wow five years thats how long I have been knitting. The other day a friend was over and I was helping her with a hat she asked if I knit all the time before I could answer both my boys yelled yes. It is a sickness I love to have and one I love to share. Thanks for sharing with us all!
OK after re reading what I wrote it dosen’t really sound very nice but you know what I mean Love you both xox

  19. Happy Blogiversary! Here’s hoping it’s just as fun for you now as it was 5 years ago. And will be 5 years from now. =)

  20. “They’re TOGETHER!” I gasped when I saw the photo. Congrats on your anniversary, and thanks for all the great patterns and knitting inspiration. I am in the midst of a Great Bib Revival for a friend who is due in August.
Didn’t Ann knit a cushion cover for that chair from
Euroflax? Or am I delusional (always a possibility)?

  21. Happy anniversary, and here’s to five more years of witty banter. (Erm, does it still count as banter if it’s written?)

  22. Happy Blogiversary to two women with wacky senses of humor and the knitting chops to go with it.

  23. Happy Bloggy Birthday!

  28. Happy Blogoversary, you two! (Um, Kay, are you hiding a peanut butter cookie behind your left hand?)

  29. But, things have changed. The picture (a very lovely picture at that) could not have take place 5 years ago. According to your history, you had not had a face to face!

  30. Happy Blogiversary! Upholstery yarn? Yes! (space for another chair…well, not really…) Looking forward to Book the Second.

  43. Yarn AND an IKEA chair? Where do I sign up?
Happy anniversary! I am attempting a cotton Fair Isle masterpiece due to your inspiring projects. First a stranded scarf, then an Aran chair…

  44. Awwww…. much love and admiration to you both.
Cheers to the blog, to the books (I have pre-ordered), to the connections you’ve created among us knitters.
    XOXO

  45. Happy Blogiversary!

  51. Aren’t we all lucky — you guys too!
Happy Blogiversary. 5 years — Isn’t that the year that couples give each other Rowan Denim? I think so.

  52. Wow ! 5 years ! Doesn’t time fly …
You both look so glam in lippy !
    I can’t say what I look like, but it’s not good. :0)

  53. Compliments to you both, the makeup looks very nice and nat’rl. And Ms. Long too I see.
Way to go, sticking it out for 5 years. That’s a long time. :D

  54. Five years? I remember when I found your blog, some Google or other, I didn’t even know what a blog was. I thought, “this is fun” and kept reading, it was a long time before I learned that there were other “blogs”, other *knitting* blogs!
Now, my hubby says, “Yes, I KNOW who Mason-Dixon Knitting is” when I try to explain who you are before telling him some terribly interesting or funny thing I’ve read on your blog.
Oh, and I reacted about like Navin R. Johnson with the phone book (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079367/quotes) when you replied to my first comment!

  55. Congratulations!

  56. Awww, Happy Blogiversary, Ann and Kay! And many happy returns of the day.
    Lovely snap!

  57. Happy Blogiversary you two, I start my day reading you two, it’s always a better day when I find you have posted something, because you almost ALWAYS been a smile to my face and a chuckle about something!I’m glad you became friends, and even happier that you decided to share it with us! Wishing you both the best…. Wendy

  58. Happy Blogiversary! And will 3000 yards be enough for a really heavily cabled design? Because I’ve been eyeing Smiley’s for more like 6000 yds. HA! Just kidding! I have my own ikea chairs in need of help. And probably at least that much in stash. Not that it matches. Not that it needs to. I’ll just get Mary Elizabeth and Gale to come over, and it will look fabulous and rustic and wonderful.

  59. Happy blogiversary! That is a seriously beautiful picture of you two. I love it.
I was actually at Ikea on Saturday and I saw the Tullsta and thought of you and your denim yarn chair desires. I thought it would be perfect for your sweater chair. And then you mentioned it today and I nearly fell out of my chair (which is sadly not a Tullsta). :)

  60. You two ROCK!!
    Congratulations!

  61. Congrats on five years, and here’s to five more. And five more after that, and five more after that, and…you know.
    Happy Blogiversary!

  65. That is such a beautiful picture! Beautiful smiles.

  66. Congrats! Great photo… no re-touching needed! Can’t wait for the new book!

  67. July 14th! The French have Bastille Day, and now we, too, have THIS auspicious occasion!
Thanks Ann and Kay for keepin’ it real, for freeing us to ‘knit’ who we are, and encouraging us also to strive to ‘knit’ (quilt, applique, make deviled eggs, etc.) who we want to be.
    HAPPY 5th!
    LoveDiane

  68. I’d be one of the 5 or 6 to sign up for that one!

  69. I’d be one of the 5 or 6 to sign up for that one!

  71. Happy Blogiversary! Battle Make-up. You crack me up. What a great phrase. You look mah-ve-lous dahlings – battle make-up and all. Here’s hoping to many more years of blogging bliss. You bring us such joy and happiness.

    Your friend, Sara in AL

  85. Congrats – here’s to many more!

  86. Congrats – here’s to many more!

  87. Happy blogiversary! Put me in for the chair kit! Is a wingback too crazy if I use an already-knit afghan for part of it?

  88. It’s a miracle what can happen in 5 years. Congratulations and best wishes girls! Oh, and thank you :-)

  89. Major congrats, and you’ve influenced another generation! My 15 year old daughter is working on her first log cabin blanket – who knows what’s next (hide the denim!).
Such a comfortable friendship, and it shows. Much love!
