Love Means Having a Contest

Dear Ann,
Adding to the oddness of life, lately, is the sound of your voice and my voice coming out of my computer, reading our audiobook. Are you finding this weird, or is it just me? We sound so wholesome! We sound like we never ever wever cuss, or yell at our children. (I know you don’t yell at your children–that’s MY super power–but I have heard you cuss, Missy! Ironic cussing is still cussing! You can call it the spice that makes language savory, but it’s still cussing!) I’m especially enjoying the old blog entries we read, in addition to the non-patterny portions of Mason-Dixon Knitting Outside the Lines. I’m laughing at our hijinks all over again. So many hijinks! So much knitting gone wrong, or gone right, but always in public.
Anyway, I want to give away a couple of copies of our audiobook. Therefore, a contest is required. Pay attention, now.
Contest
You see above you a photograph of Kay’s latest knitting project. The game is to guess the name of the project and its source. (Hint: the instructions for the project have been published in the USA and the UK. That’s a huge hint! No more hints!)
Note: It is possible that Kay is not following the pattern exactly (now there’s a shocker), and the photo shows the project as a work most definitely in progress, but the project is still recognizable as The Project.
To enter, leave a comment to this blog post stating the name of the project and its source. (There may be 2 right answers to both questions, but all correct answers will count.)
There will be 2 winners. The first audiobook will go to the first person to give correct answers to BOTH QUESTIONS. The second audiobook will be awarded by random drawing from all of the entries with correct answers to BOTH QUESTIONS.
DEADLINE: Wednesday, September 23 at noon, New York Time.
OK, back to whatever you were doing.
Love,
Kay

  1. The MacMillan Comfort Blanket in The Knitter?

  2. Well… its too much pressure for me and to tell you the truth, I’m not a fan of the denim yarn, so when you talk about your denim projects I zone out, but! I wanted you to know that I love your audiobook, I really really love it. (Really) I received it the other day with some FREE YARN from the ladies in Maine (the yarn is String Theory merino- lush!)So… while listening to you all last night while my freshman Jens complained and cranked about Latin vocab. I cast on some socs and lost myself in your voices and giggling aloud at many intervals. Thanks so much!

  3. Sennen Cove Beach Blanket from the Knitter?

  4. Is it the gwithian beach blanket from Indigo Knits? by Jane Gottelier

  5. Pipped to the post: I also think it’s the Sennen Cove Beach Blanket. I saw it in Issue 7 of the Knitter.

  6. no way can that be one single project. mmm, denimmmm.

  7. My guess is the Sporty Sweater from Rowan’s Studio 10 book. I’m positive it’s a Rowan pattern, but I’m just hoping I guessed the right pattern!

  8. Could it be the Denim Picnic Afghan from 100 Afghan Squares to Knit?

  9. Looks like a tote bag to me.

  10. I agree with Christina, the beautiful Gwythian blanket from Indigo Knits by Jane Gottelier.

  11. I think it might be Picnic from 100 Afghan squares to knit in Rowan Denim. At any rate, it’s very pretty and nautical!

  12. Is it the Keepsake Blanket from Mason Dixon Knitting?

  13. Is it the Keepsake Blanket from Mason Dixon Knitting?

  14. Hot mess! Looks like a crazy denim lady went all nutty! Lock her up!

  15. It’s the blanket from The Knitter…I can’t remember the formal name but you after you finish it you scuff it and abuse it and even wipe it with bleach!

  16. Any prizes for wrong answers?
Actually, I appreciate the leads for patterns listed here in the comments! Almost finished with my Almost A Nina Shawl.
Kay, my prayers are with you.

  20. Sennen Cove Beach Blanket by Jane Gottleier from The Knitter Magazine

  21. Sennen Cove Beach Blanket by Jane Gottleier from The Knitter Magazine
    x

  22. It’s the Sennen Cove Beach Blanket from The Knitter, which is also the Gwithian Beach Blanket from Indigo Knits. Is Kay going to distress it like they did in the magazine? I’d love to do that – it looks so fun.

  23. Sennen Cove Beach Blanket from The Knitter
    : )

  24. I’m going to guess that it is a Moderne Log Cabin or Baby Blanket from Mason-
Dixon Knitting: The Curious Knitters’ Guide. And then you are going to make it into a beach blanket with that strip of knitting as a handle, or you are using a different method for the border? Can’t wait to see the finished product!

  25. Very sadly I haven’t any idea.

  26. It’s the Baby Shane Blanket in Rowan Denim!

  27. Oops, forgot the source–it’s Tanis Fiber Arts. There!

  28. Patchwork Carriage Blanket from the Knitter’s Book of Yarn

  29. I have no idea what the project is, but I love all those blue denim colors!!! Just beautiful… blue is my favorite color and I’m always drawn to the blue yarns. Whatever it is, the finished item should be fantastic!!

  30. That blanket from Indigo Knits (book), which has also been published in one or more knitting magazines…right? With all kinds of denim!

  31. My uneducated guess: Sennen Cove Beach Blanket from “The Knitter”

  32. I’m inclined to yield my time to the beach blanket people, but offhand I would have said some kind of chair cover. Kay, you’re really on a roll with all these wonderful posts. Denim, NYC cabbies and the Rosh Hashana liturgy all captured beautifully inside of a single week! May you be inscribed for a good and a sweet New Year!

  33. Dunno what it is, but it looks like it’s going to be really neat when it’s finished. Congrats on the audiobook, will have to see if I can find it on audible.com

  34. Dunno what it is, but it looks like it’s going to be really neat when it’s finished. Congrats on the audiobook, will have to see if I can find it on audible.com

  35. I’m putting it all on “Blu” – aka baby jeans – featured in knitty and also first MDK book. I would just LOVE to see all those parts corraled into little baby pants (though perhaps not for the baby who has to wear them . . .).
    Hugs to you, Kay!

  36. Sennen Cove Beach Blanket from The Knitter.

  37. I see the i-cord and immediately think of a Zimmerman baby surprise jacket. Sign me up for the “I don’t know” prize! LOL!!
    Absolutely love the blues!
    Andrea

  38. I vote for the Keepsake Blanket from Mason-Dixon Knitting as well.

  39. Is it the Sampler Afghan by Melissa Leapman (Cables Untangled or The Knitter, Issue 3)?

  40. i honest to goodness
    do not have a guess
    tis very pretty

  41. I also think it is the Sennen Cove Beach Blanket by Jane Gottleier from The Knitter Magazine. Fingers and toes crossed.

  42. Tasha by Leigh Spencer
Wildly wild guess, but I could sew up a bag from all those parts so I know you could.

  43. Can I guess????? Sennen Cove Beach Blanket from Knitter…………. maybe sorta kinda?

  44. Is it the Gwithian Beach Blanket by Jane Gottelier, from Indigo Knits?
p.s. my first ever log cabin is now at its forever home. Still lurving the LC and am now at work on a Noro version. thanks for your tips and encouragement!

  45. I think it’s the MacMillan Comfort blanket from The Knitter/Macmillan campaign, done in gorgeous denim. Beautiful!

  46. I have no idea but if that is a blanket, I feel sorry for you. Sew I-cord onto a blanket??? For your sake, I hope the tote bag guesses are correct. The only thing that makes me think it could be either of the blankets mentioned is that no web-based picture seems to be easily accessible.
Even though I can’t qualify, nice of you to do a contest! If you do decide to add a category for “showing gratitude and empathy if it is a blanket”, please count me in. :-)

  47. I have no idea what it is but it’s beautiful. Love, love, love the blue. So I can’t go in the hopper for the contest (much as I would love to hear you two chatting amongst yourselves) but maybe you could put me in as a pity contestant?

  48. i think it is a rowan bag of some sort, please tell me im right

  49. Gwithian Beach Blanket, Indigo Knits by Jane Gottelier.

  50. I spy, with my little eye…a Sennen Cove/Gwithian Beach Blanket (designed by Jane Gottlier).
I can’t wait to see it when you’re finished (instead of a “Cornwall” patch, will you do one that says “Long Island”?)
Also, what does it say about ME that I could reach my copy of Indigo Knits without detaching rump from chair? :)

  51. yup, keepsake blanket from mason dixon knitting!

  52. I spy, with my little eye…a Sennen Cove/Gwithian Beach Blanket (designed by Jane Gottlier, and published in the Knitter, Issue 7 and in Indigo Knits).

  53. I’m going to go with the Gwithian Beach Blanket from Indigo Knits. I’m totally copying, but based on the description in Ravelry, I think it’s a good guess!

  54. Well, the majority are voting for Sennen Cove Beach Blanket from “The Knitter” which means it probably isn’t that but I’m going to go with it anyway just so I don’t mess up those wonderful studies that show how susceptible we are to choosing the wrong answer (even if we know the right one) if enough people in the group insist on a particular answer. It is definitely beautiful as is so I do hope you don’t ruin it with bleach. LOL.

  57. Is it the Sennen Cove Beach Blanket from The Knitter (a UK magazine, also sold here in the US …) – the denim, the stripes and the nautical rope fits — Issue #7, p. 37, designed by Jane Gottefier…. where they “distress” before it is sewn together…

  58. Elizabeth Zimmerman’s Tomten jacket from Knitting without Tears?

  59. My guess is the keepsake blanket from Mason-Dixon. I-cord anyone?

  60. my guess is the keepsake blanket from mason-dixon. Love the icord…

  61. Hmm…the Baby Shane Blanket from Tanis.
What a mystery you unfold for us…ha!

  62. All right, I’m late with the blanket from the knitter so I c t win, but I’m severely jetlagged AND at a conference, so I think I should get a shout out or something!!! So glad they loved the ebe cake. We always did/do from childhood until now.

  63. My answers: 1) I don’t know. 2) Wish I knew.
(Two great answers–I think, this time, I’ve got a chance….)
    LoveDiane

  64. I guess it is the Sennen Cove Beach Blanket from The Knitter Issue 7. cables and denim and bleach oh my! :)

  65. Between Ravelry and the previous guesses, I’m going with Gwithian Beach Blanket, from Indigo Knits. Put me in the random-number drawing, please.

  66. Sennen Cove Beach Blanket by Jane Gottleier from The Knitter Magazine looks like the right one. I know I won’t be first, but I hope to be in the random drawing!

  81. Oh, I can’t possibly figure out what the project is! But I wanted to tell you that I’d ordered the audio book from Knitting Out Loud and it came today along with an absolutely scrumptious hank of sport weight superwash merino in the Ruby Slipper colorway! I’m so excited! I plan to knit a pair of cabled gloves for myself, and I’ll have the pleasure of listening to you all as I work on them! Yipppeeee!!! Thanks for posting the link to that giveaway!

  82. It’s not fair! Seeing as I am way over here in Australia and you are giving hints the pattern has been published in the USA and UK I really don’t have any idea. The project looks really nice though and I would love your audiobook.

  84. Already have the audiobook, so I just wanted to tell whoever the two winners are, believe me — you will LURVE the hours and hours with Kay and Ann.
Y’all should do a radio show.
