Make Me a Poster of An Old Rodeo

Dear Ann,
We may not be
hankwilliamshatch.jpg
Hank.
We may not be
billmonroehatch.jpg
Bill.
And we certainly are not
patsyclinehatch.jpg
Patsy.
But believe it or not, our humble heads have been cut in wood by the venerable Nashville establishment of Hatch Show Print, printers of the first Elvis posters and pretty much everybody who ever played at the Grand Ole Opry. Lookie:

I nearly fainted when I saw this on Amazon. I was all, Ann looks cute but who is the chick with the bandana and the bad highlights?
I think it’s safe to say that now we can die happy. And I promise, next time you’ll get to wear the cowboy hat.
Love,
Kay

  6. Cool !

  7. Congratulations! Can’t wait to see the stuff that comes after the very clever cover…

  8. wow. In this case I CAN judge a book by its cover. Congratulations!

  9. AWESOME! (Fucking awesome actually. Can I say that here?)

  10. Wow. Best knitting book cover ever! Congratulations, y’all!

  11. THIS IS SO COOL! I had no idea…
Abby and I wanted Hatch Show to do our wedding invitation, but they only do poster-size and up, so they referred us to a former Hatch employee. (For what it’s worth, friends of ours later had Hatch Show actually do an invitation poster. Lord knows what that cost in postage to send out…)
For the uninitiated, Hatch Show Print is like the Michealangelo of letter press printers. It’s like having Mozart compose your theme song. Or Richard Avedon do your family portrait. Or Bobby Flay whip you up a little something in the kitchen…
    SO, SO, SO COOL!
    Congrats!

  12. WELL DONE!
Will there be posters printed by Hatch Show Prints too? Sweet little publicity postcards sent out by your hard-working publicist? I certainly hope so!
I love Hatch and I am curious to see the final colors.
    Robin
PS It was lovely to meet your oh-so-distinguished father, Ann. Two authors with books in the same year!

  13. I want my copy signed okay????
Will there be a signing at the conference????

  14. Kay, THE HAT! Daddy must be so proud.

  15. Wow! That is so superfantastic! I can’t wait to read it!

  16. Kay, looks like you underestimated your readership.
SIX more months? How on earth am I going to wait this out?!!! It’s a good thing I’m creating some distraction for myself midway through. Love it, love it, love it. I’m so happy it turned out exactlly like you two wanted it.

  17. Yee haaaaaa!!!! You girls look right good!
I can’t wait to buy the book.
    Best wishes…

  18. Soooo exciting! Looks awesome! Can’t wait.
P.S. They did our wedding invitations too ;)

  19. Y’all are right up there with those others, just as deserving of such a fab cover. *yay* *yay* yay*

  20. Just give me one thing that I can hold on to,
To believe in this livin’ is just a hard way to go…
Unless, of course, I go get this book and die laughing, which is a MUCH better way to go ;-))
(thanks for the John Denver flashback)

  21. Could you two BE any cuter? No. No, you could not. Out of curiousity, would you prefer that loyal readers purchase the book at Amazon, to boost your spot on their ranking list, or would you like us to get it from our local yarn shop/independent bookseller?

  22. woodcuts! you’re famous! such a novel idea….and perfect likenesses, i’d say! we’re all counting the months, impatiently…..

  23. Yippie-Yi-Kai-Yay lil’ doggies! You sure look mighty fine in that there Hat, Kay-tee girl! I’m plum happier for you than a fox shut in the hen house. Whoo-pee!

  24. It looks fantastic! I can’t wait to read this book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  25. Wow, that’s great! I love how you are called the *Founders* of Masondixonknitting.com. So exalted sounding! And I love the apostrophe in the right place on Knitters’ Guide… Oh, it’s perfect! What a dork I am about apostrophes….

  26. Yeeeeehaaah Ladies!!! Brilliant cover!!! It’ll be on my wish list! Congrats!!!

  27. Move ‘em on, head ‘em up, Head ‘em up, move ‘em on
Move ‘em on, head ‘em up Rawhide

What can I say ? You STARS ! …. and now I’ll have that damn tune in my head all day …..
    Heather xxx

  28. Wooohooo! I know what I’ll be ordering for Christmas! Well done, ladies!

  29. It has been pre-ordered. But as soon as I get it it will be sent to both NYC and TN for autographs. Be sure of that.

  30. Clearly you two could never be thought of as women with nothing to say! I just know that those shirts you are wearin have fringe and appliqued (or needlefelted) stars on them.
    Happy Happy Day! Congratulations!
Thanks for getting one of my fave songs in my head. It goes great with Sunday morning coffee

  31. Shucks, ladies — I bet you inspired the knitting theme on last week’s “Lives of the Cowboys” on Prairie Home Companion. Can’t wait for your book to come out!
Ann, I loved your story in KL3. I want to incorporate the expression “freakish twin” into casual conversation, but I haven’t been able to yet. Maybe it’s specific to you and Kay.

  32. This is hands-down the coolest knitting book cover ever. And I’m sure the contents will more than live up to the cover visual. And, Kay, you can think of the cowboy hat as a kind of homage to your dad. (Didn’t you mention in a former post that, he is one of the few men in the Western hemisphere who actually looks good in a cowboy hat? Like father, like daughter.) Congratulations!

  33. hooray for kay & ann, and bisous all around!

  34. Oh, how absolutely wonderful. Echoing the question above – Amazon or local?

  35. Awesome cover! I love it! I can’t wait to see it on the shelves.

  36. Congratulations! I can’t wait to hold the book in my hot little hands.

  37. Woo hoo! That’s fancy! Did you guys arm wrestle over the cowboy hat or what?

  38. FAB-U-LOUS!!! How exciting! (And I’m laughing about MarydeB’s comment re: the apostrophe. I thought I was the only one left who noticed things like that anymore. Kudos.)

  39. I LOVE IT!
Couldn’t be cuter or more clever!
    Good for you two!
    Donna

  40. So cool!
And the title and John Denver comment lead right into one of my best stories about knowing who the heck John Prine is and getting in trouble for it (basically).
So so so so so wonderful! The illustration and the cover text are perfectly in accordance with the blog. I’m really looking forward to the book.

  41. So is there going to be a poster release in conjunction with the book release? Special poster with book packaging? (My Partridge Family albums came with goodies. Hee. I still have them!) I looked for the poster on the website, but nothing yet…I plan to hang it over a comfy chair, with good lighting, next to the “Knit your bit. Our boys need sox” vintage poster that I’m asking for for Christmas this year.

  42. You’re the ding-dang doggone-iest duo since Pancho and Lefty!
    Congratulations! xo, c.

  43. I love the cover, and I can’t wait to see the book!

  44. oh my; I used to think I had patience. I could wait for days and weeks and months and know that whatever I was waiting for was worth it. That said, and with the disclaimer that I do *know* that this will be worth it, I want one NOW! (big deep dramatic sigh here.)
Congrats on a fantastic cover! I do enjoy the subtitles as well…

  45. Fabulous cover!!! Can hardly wait to get into the book! Congratulations you two!

  46. Congratulations, you fiesty fillies! It must be surreal to have cartoon versions of yourselves out in the world. The cover looks great and if I saw it in a store, I’d head right for it. I’m looking forward to taking a gander!

  47. oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh!!! woo hoo! congratulations! can’t wait to snap it up!

  48. Brilliant, brilliant cover! I love it already!

  49. Hurrah! How cool. The Must Have book of next year. And for all those apostrophe lovers, did ‘Eats, Shoots and Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation’ by Lynne Truss get published in the US? You’d love it.

  50. Awesome. Congratulations, y’all!

  51. Waaaayy cool! Congrats!

  52. aaaaah! too cool!
