Dear Ann and Everybody,
Here’s wishing everyone in the United States, and everywhere there is a bank holiday or Monday off for any reason, a happy holiday. I know Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for soldiers and sailors, but in my family it has also been a day to take coffee cans full of peonies to the cemetery and decorate the graves of family members, many of whom are only known to us as names. Our grandfather carved most of their headstones, so we remember him.
Out here, we drink gin, eat hamburgers, eavesdrop on our kids and laugh for a minute at the sweetness of life. I’m knitting frantically on a Big Secret Thing, so I have not even wound the yarn that I have been carrying around in my purse for the footie socks I am dying to cast on before the end of our One-Sock Knitalong. But the Big Secret Thing has given me hours to fill, entertainment-wise. I commend to all this SNL skit:
As summer begins, don’t forget to get yourself some soap in the shape of a flip-flop.
P.S. Don’t laugh, but this tableau is in my bathroom:
THE CUT! THE CUT! THE CUT!
