Last September, I was lucky to tag along on a business trip to India with a creative team from Land of Nod, the children’s furnishings, bedding, and accessories company.
This was part of my research for Making a Life, a book I’m writing about the role of making by hand in our lives. We spent a couple of days in Jaipur, then visited factories in and around Delhi where Land of Nod products, including rugs, sheets, quilts, and toys, are made by hand and by machine.
India is a trove of color, pattern, texture—and hospitality. Of course, I would love to visit again soon, but even just a week there has already influenced me greatly. When I look at these photos, I see potential color palettes for MDK Field Guides, patterns for Fair Isle designs, ideas for my book, and so much more. I absolutely love exploring how people live and create all over the world. You can see more of my photos from this trip here.
