  • I saw some of the trailers abiut Iris Apfel, totally enjoyable! I must have seen her before, because the huge eyeglass frames are ringing a bell. I appreciate her unique style and the fact that she is being true to herself. It makes me wish I had a more studied style of my own, because with dressing, I just try to get by.

This woman’s zest for life is a wonderful example of knowing yourself, what brings you alive, and then following through. She seizes the day and makes the most of each moment.

    • I wouldn’t worry about it. A sense of style is not the most important thing to have. And actually not having a studied style of your own is actually your own style, so you have one anyway!

  • So great. I need to make a list and reactivate my Netflix membership, as there have been so many interesting suggestions lately. Thanks for this recommendation, especially.

  • One of my favorite documentaries and style icons. I love Iris’ sense of pattern play and color. Watching her shop was my favorite part!

  • This is one of my favorite movies. She is incredible.

  • This is a fantastic film; I saw it in the theatre and recommend it highly. Iris is inspirational in how she chooses to dress, and the scenes of her shopping are fantastic.

  • Probably more accurate to say you are an embarrassment to your children but you decided not to care.

  • Thank you for reminding me about this! I first learned about Iris from the Advanced Style blog. (To which you probably also directed me.) I love her, and also agree with you that “it’s the perfect pairing of filmmaker and subject.”

  • I saw the documentary when it first came out. I wanna be Iris when I grow up! Short of that, I’d love her in my knitting group.
