Rambouillet Wool (Swan's Island)
A little more about these special yarns.
Leif Cowl Kit
It’s mesmerizing to knit Spincycle Dyed in the Wool. It does crazy things. It shifts right before your eyes. It’s unpredictable and wild and addicting. And when you pair two shades for the Leif Cowl, the drama doubles.
In a world where so much is preordained, when you’ve made so many decisions (dog or cat, paper versus plastic, pro-flipflops or anti-flipflop), Spincycle reminds us that sometimes we need to let go and let it rip.
This 100% American wool, superwash, dyed by hand then millspun, is like no other. We are proud to contribute to the mass hypnosis caused by this extraordinary yarn.
Asterisk Hat and Dot Cowl Kit
Why do we love this yarn? It comes from people who care deeply about quality at every step of the yarnmaking process, which means that a skein of this yarn is all larded up with thought and care and attention to detail. Also: it is very, very beautiful.
Every skein of Swans Island is dyed by hand. It is lovely stuff, with subtle shifts of color that add unusual depth to colorwork, as you can see in the Asterisk Cowl and Dot Hat. This All American Sport Weight is made from the wool of Rambouillet sheep out West, spun in a New England mill, then dyed in Northport, Maine at the Swan’s Island dye house.
Why are we telling you all this? Because we believe that good yarn comes with a story, and the story of Swans Island is a great one.
